What is the netflix policy for putting movies on disc and instant?

How long does it take for a movie to get to netflix instant? Does netflix get movies later than the actual release? What is the criteria for a movie going to disc or instant? Please include links for reference :)

  1. and then..... says:

Instant is instant , hence the word “instant” . They get them on the release date . Some advertise they are going to get them before the release date . For criteria you’d have to ask netflix , thats inside knowledge .

And links are illegal on here and considered spam .

I can’t quote any specific references (sorry), but Netflix Instant gets new releases many many months after they’ve been out on DVD, if ever. This is because the studios want to capitalize on physical DVD sales and/or sales per digital purchase (like through iTunes or Amazon) as much as possible, since this yields more money.

I think new releases come to Netflix discs that you order in the mail at the same time that new releases come out on DVD, or 1-3 weeks after. This makes sense, because in order to ship you the disc, Netflix has to purchase the DVD from the studio publisher. Since streaming is unlimited, you can kind of see why studios would be hesitant to support it since it may cannibalize DVD sales and digital per purchase, but hopefully this will change in the next couple years.

Not sure why the other person said links are illegal. They’re perfectly legal and helpful for answers.
